David Agenjo | Painter

David Agenjo | Painter

David Agenjo‘s work could be considered modern impressionism. His penchant for using a cool color palette appears deliberate. It creates a distance between the subject, which is often human, and the viewer. As a result, it’s almost voyeuristic. You experience these people but you’re disconnected from them emotionally. You wonder their origins, their wants.

David’s work exhibits such a dynamic tension.

Even when the subjects’ bodies are more expressive, their facial expressions are stoic furthering the detached nature of his work. There are bursts of vivid colors placed haphazardly within the paintings and coupled with the kinetic brush strokes, the painting feels less subdued and more lively. It’s a delicate balance. One I think is more successful with the Portraits, Hands-on Canvas + Oneself collections; and less so with his Up & Down in Town series.

Rihanna | Elle UK

Rihanna is the modern day material girl. She’s an icon of a generation, influencing young women in ways of fashion/style, love and social etiquette. Check the blogs–gossip or fashion or music industry, she’s a mainstay. Look at social media–Instagram pics are liked and dissected. Her tweets are digested, retweeted and dissected. It doesn’t really matter if you follow her or not, if you’re a Gen-Xer, her image will show up in your feed. She’s edgy, she’s beautiful, she’s successful and she’s young. All the ingredients needed to have brands line up and offer her endorsements. Her edginess may be a double edge sword (losing the Nivea deal) but it’s otherwise have kept her interesting and in a time of short attention spans, relevant.

That relevancy coupled with her beauty keeps her on the covers of the biggest fashion magazines. This month, she makes her way to Elle UK.

Cassie Cast in Current Forever 21 Campaign

Cassie, P. Diddy’s protege-slash-love interest, is making moves. She just released new music in the form of a mixtape entitled Rockabyebaby and announced a collaboration with Forever 21 as the spokesmodel for their summer line. I ain’t mad at her.

PSY’s such a Gentleman

KPop’s biggest contribution to the world, PSY, just released Gentleman, his long awaited/ highly anticipated follow up to the billion plus viewed Gangnam Style video. Gentleman dropped a couple days ago and it’s already at 81 million views. Visually, it’s very much an extension of the original viral hit. non-sequential vignettes of pure lunacy coupled with a cavalcade of dancers. There is one loose plot line here and that is PSY doing very un-chilvarlous things to friends, dates and acquaintances before proclaiming he’s a gentleman. Sonically, it’s as upbeat and frenetic as Gangnam style. It’s obvious that he didn’t want to stray too far from the formula that won over so many fans, made him millions and garnered him international fame.

That Ol' Blackmagic... Cinema Camera

“This year’s announcement is twice as jaw-dropping as the previous one. Two fantastic, budget-minded entries that will have novice and pro alike salivating at the opportunity to use these lil gadgets. First, there’s a micro 4/3′s camera that’ll shoot 1080p as well as record in RAW. Oh, and it’s under a grand. Then there’s a 4k model (roughly twice the resolution of 1080p) that will also shoot RAW and that models is coming in at an unbelievable sub-$5k price. Wow. These camera’s may be niche, but you’d better believe Blackmagic has just found a boatload of street cred and will quickly find itself in a great position to be a bona-fied leader in the low budget/indie production category.”

In the end, it means a lot to have people respond positively to the work we’ve put in and will continue to put in.

There are two gift bags. An art bag that I’m filling with pens (Micron is my favorite brand), pencils, drawing pad, Holga camera (w/film!) and Lens Baby Spark to shoot all that fun stuff when you’re out and about on those warm days.

Thanks to two of my frequent + favorite contributors JT and Jourdyn for brainstorming ideas for the style gift bag. JT narrowed down the list to include a $50 Zara gift card and a bunch of beauty stuff to get you ready for spring.
